Last week was a great week for the City of Warren.

1. Mayor James Fouts delivered the annual “State of the City” speech in which he outlined a lot of great things taking place in Warren. Including that Warren is the # 1 city for industrial assessment according to Crain’s Detroit Business. The City of Warren is now worth at least $100 million more than Detroit. Pretty impressive considering Detroit has 443 miles and we have only 32.  Warren has great investments coming into the city meaning more jobs and taxes to pay for our expenditures.

Mayor Fouts also appreciates the fairness of almost all media except one with respect to the delivery of the State of the City speech.  Channel 2 and Channel 7 were fair, as was the Detroit Free Press, Detroit News, Macomb Daily,  Warren Weekly, and many radio stations also provided fair and balanced coverage of the State of the City address that outlined the many accomplishments of Mayor’f Fouts admininistration.  Lots of great news!

Please also note that The State of the City Address can be seen on Warren Cable at 8AM, 2PM, and 7:30 PM each day.   The State of the City Address is also avaiable on Comcast Channel 5. WOW Channel 10. AT&T Channel 99.

2. This weekend, speciflically on (4/1/17) Mayor Fouts attended a fundraiser for A.S.P.I.R.E.  The Mayor greatly enjoyed meeting with various individuals and found everyone to be friendly and gracious. This was held at the Elks Lodge in Warren. This is a worthwhile event and Mayor Fouts hopes to attend this annually.  Mayor Fouts would like to extend his appreciation to being invited and also for the warm introduction to a number of good people by State Representative John Chirkun.

Mayor Fouts was impressed with President Gary Goodin and his wife Darlene; Melissa King Magistrate from Roseville; Harold Haugh former State Representative, Dana Freer Fraser Lions Club, Patrick Lagato performed an Elvis routine, and Roseville Councilman Charles Frontera who invited the Mayor.

3. Mayor Fouts was happy to be able to read to two groups of first graders at Crescentwood elementary school in Eastpointe for the March reading month.  The kids at Crescentwood  Elementary were a lot of fun with good questions and a high degree of enthusiasm.
The Mayor also had the pleasure of meeting with a very dedicated retired teacher (age 75) who has come back to help out kids with reading issues. He was formerly Chris Wouters’ coach. He had high praise for Chris Wouters. He coached at Wayne State University. A great guy and one who was willing to come out of retirement to make a difference. He worked really well with the kids! And he is making a difference. Great guy!

4. Also the week ended on a high point (at least for Mayor Fouts) with North Carolina defeating Oregon by one point. Great game in the wee hours of Saturday night! Gonzaga also defeated South Carolina in another close game 77-73. Looks to Mayor Fouts like Gonzaga is the favorite but he will still be rooting for UNC Monday night on CBS!

Finally, a personal update, Mayor Fouts is now able to cautiously exercise again after an ankle injury.

“It feels good to be outside again, although still not able to jog, but it’s great to be outside in very sunny weather!” The Mayor posted on Facebook.
