Warren Mayor Jim Fouts recently issued a Mayoral Proclamation for Dystonia Awareness Month and presented it to Warren resident and Dystonia warrior Jason Dunn.

Several years ago in his first term as Mayor, Jim Fouts met Jason Dunn and shined some light on Dystonia and his needs and we were able to get a new home built for him through Habitat for Humanity.

To bring awareness to this disorder, Warren City Hall was light up on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 in blue, orange and green from dusk until dawn to bring public attention to Dystonia. September is the awareness month for Dystonia.

An estimated 250,000 people in the United States have Dystonia, a chronic movement disorder affecting the brain and nervous system. It is the third most common movement disorder after essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease. Dystonia causes excessive, uncontrollable muscle spasms. The muscle spasms twist the body and limbs into involuntary movements and awkward postures. There is currently no cure for Dystonia.

When the public views these lights, they will be reminded of the seriousness of Dystonia and support programs to help find cures for it.
